Protect the Results Coalition Strongly Condemns GOP Efforts to Overturn Results

Bipartisan Coalition of 175 Groups Urges Lawmakers to Reject Partisan Attacks On Our Democracy

Ahead of the congressional vote formally certifying President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ victory in the Electoral College, Indivisible and Stand Up America issued the following joint statement on behalf of the Protect the Results coalition:

“This November, Americans came out in record numbers to choose a government of, by, and for the people. Voters decided—and voters will continue to decide what’s next for our country. The election is over, President-elect Biden won, and it’s far past time to move our country forward.”

“Let’s be clear: The lawmakers objecting to the certified results today are broadcasting their contempt for democracy and the will of the American people.”

“This anti-democratic effort to subvert the will of the voters is a shameless display of rank partisanship, but it will not change the valid results of this election nor Joe Biden’s resounding victory—and these efforts to undermine confidence in our election will be swiftly rejected by bipartisan majorities in both chambers. We call on all lawmakers—Democrats, Republicans, and Independents—to vigorously defend our democracy from these absurd, un-American attacks.”

“For years, Trump and his allies have sought to undermine faith in our elections and erode our democratic institutions, but election officials from both parties, independent courts, and the Electoral College have withstood these assaults time and time again.”

“Democracy will prevail again today—and history will not speak kindly of those who attempted to subvert it.”

The Protect the Results coalition is a bipartisan coalition of more than 175 advocacy organizations, grassroots groups, labor unions, and government watchdogs working together to prevent Donald Trump from successfully undermining the outcome of the election.
