Parking and Meeting Place: Please park at Portola High School, using the address 1200 Merit, Irvine 92618 if you are using a Map app. Carpooling recommended. Please look out for WAVE members wearing white WAVE t-shirts and carrying our banner. WAVE members will meet in the area of the parking lot closest to the swimming pool stadium.
Time: The Rally will begin promptly at 3:00pm in the Portola High School parking lot. We will then march to Alton/Irvine Blvd. The rally and march will end approximately 5:00pm.
Speakers: We have an incredible list of speakers, including congressional candidates and community activists.
Bring: Posters, water, sunscreen, maybe a small snack.
Toy Drive: We are collecting NEW (not used) items for a local shelter housing immigrant children. They have requested the following items: Soccer Balls, Volleyballs, Sport equipment, Outdoor game activities, Deck of Cards, Craft Supplies, New PG-13 videos, Spanish Books, MP3 Players
Wear: WHITE clothing and comfortable shoes for the march. Attendees are asked to wear white to the event in coordination with the nation-wide events. White is a striking visual symbol that will also connect attendees in solidarity to each other and channel historic social justice movements unified by one color of clothing.
Children: We support a family-friendly event and encourage attendees to bring their children.
March: After the speaker program, we will march to a location near the James A. Musick detention center, where parents who have been separated from their children are detained. It is approximately 1.25 miles from the parking lot — roundtrip will be 2.5 miles. We will have a passenger van available to drive those unable to march to/from the march location. Total march roundtrip distance is approximately 2.5 miles.
Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer, please sign up here: https://www.volunteersignup.org/DP7KW. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 2:15pm.
